The following photos highlight the move and restoration of the Dearborn (XN) tower. Tower such as the Dearborn tower would be manned to protect the different junction points on a railroad when tracks cross each other. The operator would control the movement of trains through the tracks under the control of the tower often using large mechanical levers. Thanks to the proceeds from our A Day Out With Thomas ^TM events have allowed us to progress with the restoration of this vanishing piece of railroad history. A special thanks to CSX for their donation of the tower, and funded in part by a grant from the Fayette County Foundation.

July 23, 2003 - Last CSX Train passes Dearborn Tower in Lawrenburg, IN.

July 23, 2003 - Crews from CSX Transportation, Dillabaugh, Inc., and the Whitewater Valley Railroad prepare to move the tower.

July 24, 2003 - The tower is disassembled for removal, and is loaded onto flatbed trucks.

July 30, 2003 - Tower is reassembled along the WVRR Track in Connersville, IN.

August 2, 2003 - Tower at WVRR New Museum Site in Connersville, IN.

March 20, 2004 - Restoration work starts on tower.

May 1, 2004 - Bottom half of the tower is restored.

December 4, 2004 - Installation of windows.

February 26, 2005 - East Windows & Top door installed.

August 27, 2005 - Stairs & Name Board installed. Most Exterior work is completed. Interior Started.fs
