Description:

Built or the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad as number 320 it later renumbered B&O 9376. It appears to have worked most of its career on the B&O around the Cincinnati and Hamilton, Ohio area. Memories from B&O Hamilton roundhouse staff indicate that it was often located there. It was sold to Armco Steel in 1965. There it became an in plant switcher numbered E-123. Like many steel mill engines, the bodywork was damaged during those years. It was donated in 1987 with sister Armco 709 to WVRR when the Lima fleet was finally retired. It is the only 1200hp model preserved.

Currently it is out of service awaiting full cosmetic restoration into it’s as built B&O appearance and possibly later to operation. The identity of this unit has been mistaken in the past due to a swap of the hood while at Armco Steel. The middle hood section is not that or B&O #320, but rather that of a former ERIE unit (number unknown). When donated to the WVRR the Erie paint was showing through and the practice of Armco Steel applying Erie like stripes to the front nose section of the body helped convince many railfans that the entire locomotive was a former ERIE Railroad unit.
